 Invisible 5
Listen to the Invisible 5 Environmental Justice Audio Tour as you travel between San Francisco and Los Angeles or vice versa. Hear the stories of people who live near the I5 and deal with environmental racism - battling toxic waste dumps, incinerators and smog. You can download the mp3s and listen on your mp3 player - or save it for the trip.

 Surplus Reality
Jacob Moreno had a concept called "surplus reality", which was a space where people could live out alternative realities on stage and try out different ways of behaving in a safe space and get feedback from others. I was listening to This American Life this weekend and they had a story (Mind Games) on an Improv Group in New York who perform "missions" of constructed reality. Sometimes constructing reality can cause pain. Liste to the story on This American Life and read the Improv group's missions.

 Putting lipstick on a pig
"Well-known UK graffiti artist Banksy hacks the Wall"
by Nigel Parry, The Electronic Intifada, 2 September 2005
Today Israel is bombing the Gaza Strip, revealing the true nature of the withdrawal - not a move of peace, but a tactical repositioning in the war against the people of Palestine. After reading about the current situation at the Electronic Inifada, I saw this article on the Wall by Nigel Perry. I won't spoil it - it is worth reading from beginning to end. It raises questions that every activist artist should think about - and really goes at the question of can art/design change the world?

 Disappeared in America
From Site: DISAPPEARED is a project by the Visible Collective that uses technology-art, sculpture-installations and lectures to humanize post 9/11 "disappeared" Muslims. The majority of migrants detained in recent security hysteria were from the invisible underclass of cities like New York. They are the recent immigrants who drive our taxis, deliver our food, clean our restaurant tables, and sell fruit, coffee, and newspapers. The only time we "see" them is when we glance at the hack license in the taxi partition, or the ID card around the neck of a vendor.

 Iraq War Fatalities
Iraq War Fatalities is a graphic portrayal of the deaths of the invading and occupying forces in Iraq. It draws data from icasualities.org. It is nicely done, lots of additional features leap out as possibilities for extension, such as a timeline scrollbar maybe with a sparkline type barchart across the bottom.

 Horde of Directors
Horde of Directors is an innovative use of the They Rule data by Ian Bogost and T. Michael Keesey. It's a game! Here is the decription from the website: Horde of Directors puts the player in the role of an activist trying to advance a social agenda in the complex world of interrelated corporate and government interests. By creating simplified experience of corporate interconnectedness, the game embodies the challenges of overcoming corporate and government nepotism in the name of social causes. Thanks Ian and Michael!

The Most Important Election of our Lifetime
The Most Important Election of our Lifetime ~ Spot the Difference Quiz Game! ~ It is common knowledge that this is 'the most important election ever' - but can you tell the difference between the two main candidates? This quiz is intended to question just how significant the difference between Bush and Kerry really is. I hope that people find it provocative as well as thoughtful. Please follow the link at the end of the quiz for some more serious examinations of the question.

 What Barry Says
What Barry Says is a quicktime video made by Simon Robson. It is very slick. The narration is a short description of US imperialism today as seen by his friend Barry Menamara.

Want a say in the US election?
Given the the world is the world's biggest 'superpower' (euphemism for imperialist nation), shouldn't everyone who has a stake in the result of the US election have a say in who gets elected? The people behind Global Vote 2004 seem to think so. Cast your non-citizen vote and receive an email on the eve of the election letting you know the result of the worldwide poll. For what it is worth I voted for Nader!
