Democracy Now
From 9am - 10am every day I am very unproductive. Amy Goodman and the Democracy Now crew are always busy getting me riled up about something worthwhile. This show is a vital organ of the US left.

Commondreams
Everyday there are at least two disgusting news stories that are buried between advertisements on double digit pages in the mainstream press. Commondreams find those articles and make them their headlines. Down the center are leftwing and liberal editorials.

China Miéville
Fantasy and revolution: an interview with China Miéville I keep going back to this interview as an interesting way to think about the relationship between art and politics. "My job in that book is not to convince people of socialism--a 700-page fantasy would be a spectacularly inefficient mode of propaganda. But obviously as a political writer of fiction it's inevitable that I'm a writer of political fiction." I'd settle for 200 didactic pages...

Other political art/design projects
Other than they rule, I have done a few online art/design projects with Amy Franceschini and futurefarmers. We made The Nader Challenge during the runup to the 2000 selection. Visitors decide which of a series of similar quotes were uttered by Bush and which were Gore's. If this makes you angry at me - take the challenge - and be even more angry at Gore!
After the racist fraud in Florida, Bush took the Whitehouse. We thought the people of the world needed an outlet. I am usually opposed to personalistic politics - but this was a good opportunity to encourage political cartooning - go to Texas Drawl and draw on G.W.B.
After a year in office, backed by his party and the Democrats, Bush decided to attack the one of the poorest countries in the world. Despite receiving years of US funding and backing the fundamentalists of Afghanistan were the announced targets of the US military forces. Uncounted numbers of civilians died, and today the people are still poor and oppressed. But the US does seem to have a bigger foothold in the region which is always good for business. Myself and others made Antiwargame as an initial response to this imperialism.

Mute
Both art and technology present great opportunities for the wealthy, and their accumulative agenda can, as is often noted, end up driving creative innovations down a dreary road a long the bottom line. Mute (culture and politics after the net) is a magazine that is created by a community of artists, theorists and activists who insist that new digital technologies are more than just a good business opportunity.

*We challenge neo-liberalism in the art world and the general culture.
*We believe that our culture is not for sale.
*We see our involvement in education and debate as a central part of our art practice.
*We identify art with direct action, artists with activists.
*We want to change the world

Power Brokers of Biotech
"Power Brokers of Biotech visualization tool. With it, you can see the interconnectness of 1,500+ biotech, pharma and medical device companies by tracking the key individuals who serve on their boards of directors." Sound familiar? It looks familiar too! This site is truely terrifying. I thought the Clayton Act made it illegal to sit on the board of two competing companies - but it is difficult to see how that could be true looking at this application at Recombinant Capital. But this was not put together as an expose of the incestuous industry, rather this is seen as a service to help enable the practioners to network with each other. "Recap's mission is to ensure availability of adequate resources for deserving biotechnology enterprises by providing comprehensive and timely advice and analysis related to the environment for corporate and product development and alliance formation." Interestingly enough they didn't link to www.theyrule.net!
